Getting to Spain

We had a very good start to the day. Managed to get away from Luz St Saveur at 8:30.
Our preferred option over the Pyrenees was to Col du Tourmalet, but it was closed. The alternative route would take us about 5h30, so we got going. It was a rainy day and we spent lots of time driving through fog or clouds.

The drive up Col du Sur was wonderful. We only got glimpses of the snowy peaks, but they were spectacular!! We came across a flock of sheep...all so idyllic...

And then we got to this:
The mountain pass was closed!!

We had the choice of turning back and going back down the same hill, or down an unknown road. We choose the unknown road. It was very foggy and very zig-zaggy. After 2 hours of driving we were further away from our destination than we were at the start of the day. We had no idea where the GPS was sending us and if the way would be open. When we saw a Carrefour we stopped for some food and filled up with diesel. We went on our way again.

Finally got to a 8 km long tunnel and realised we were going through the mountain and not over it. We were so relieved.

Au revoir France.
Ola Espana!

Was quite amazing how different the landscape was in Spain. It was quite bleak and brown. The roads were good, though.
Had a few hours to work on our Spanish. The boys learnt how to count to 5 in Spanish, say Ola, Gracias and a few more things.

Nine hours later we finally arrived at Park Playa Bara.  What a day!!!
