Proumeyssac

Today we went to Proumeyssac - the 'Cathedral of Crystal' close to Le Bugue. At our accommodation we saw plenty of brochures of caves in the area, but this one look the coolest by far.

When we got there we had a quick lunch....the standard: baguette with cold meat and cheese. Then the boys went for a play in a very cool playground. They had to pretend that they were a drop of water and had to follow a path, crawling trough tunnels, squeezing through crevices and going under rocks to get to the other end.

We then went on a tour through the cave. The  whole tour was in French, but we had some head phones with recorded English commentary. We couldn't really hear much, but the views were amazing!! Wherever you looked were stalactites. Even stalagmites in places, with water dripping from above.

Apparently, there was some steam rising out of the cave back in the 18th century. The people believed it was hell. The police of the area ordered the cave to be closed and 3 stone walls were built to close of the entrance. It was only in 1907, when these walls disintegrated, that this cave was explored for the first time.

I'm not sure if the boys really enjoyed it. I think they got a bit frustrated at not understanding the French speaking guide. I loved it though. It has been my best ever cave experience by far!!
