Kenilworth Castle

24 July 2014

We thought that we've probably been to enough castles for now, but then drove past Kenilworth
Castle. It seemed like a good place to stop for lunch.

We only had hummus and salad in the car, so that was what was on offer for lunch. Alex didn't think that was proper lunch food so he grumped around while we had lunch. Ryan enjoyed the food and found different places to pose for photos.

After we something to eat we went for a quick look around.

Nice rural view from the top of the castle

On the way out Alex found some jams to sample. That was his lunch. Apparently his favourite one was the Whiskey Marmalade. He had quite a lot of that.... At least he found something to eat.

Jousting at Warwick Castle

We got some prime spots in the shade to watch the jousting between the House of Lancaster and the House of York.

King Henry VI

  Getting ready to start

Ryan was very happy when the House of Lancaster won, because one of them was wearing red. And red is his second favourite colour.

Bird Show at Warwick Castle

We saw this beauty just sitting here. We went to have a look at him and then suddenly birds were flying overhead.

I took this very cool sequence of the eagle....

This was a baby lammergeyer...

....and some other birds....

The boys got to see the vulture from up close...

Warwick Castle

 23 July 2014

Warwick Castle was one of the places we could visit with our Merlin passes. We didn't really have a plan for the day...just went and did everything...

We climbed 500+ steps up to one of the towers...

The view from the top early in the day

The view later in the day...

There was some weapons to play with...

...and boats to row

 There was some dressing up...

...and put heads through holes...

We went into the King Maker...

There were many shows throughout the day:

We watched the Trebuchet Show and then went to see how far the canon balls went. The furthers one for the year was about 260m away.

We watched the Bird Show and the Jousting and ended with the Warwick Warriors.

It was a great day out!!
