Summer is over

Since we left London 8 days ago we have had cold, windy and wet weather every day, except for our ferry crossing day. One would think that the middle of August would be a great time to be in Europe...

We spent 2 nights in Antwerp. Sightseeing was not really an option in the weather. Instead we went to Colruyt - another supermarket with tasters everywhere. We had plenty to eat and picked up some stuff for dinner in a a hotel room. Salami sandwiches the one night and instant noodles the next.

Our day in Antwerp consisted of  one adult staying in the hotel room and the other one taking the boys downstairs to do something. We played soccer outside, there was bubble chasing (thanks Keith and Lily for the bubbles), some Playstation football and tower building...

From Antwerp we went to Zaandam, just north of Amsterdam, to stay with Jan and Liza-Marie. Traffic was heavy as it was a holiday in Belgium so we took the quiet back roads. We crossed the border into the Netherlands, but before long we were back in Belgium.

The most exciting thing on our car journey was finally reaching 8000km. In Zaandam we had to wait for a big boat to pass.

At Jan and Liza-Mari's we didn't really do much. They've got a great apartment, so we spent most of the time there, enjoying the views...

Other activities included watching TV, playing games on the computer, playing card games and feeding the swans and their six very big signets.

Liza-Mari made some play dough with which the boys had lots of fun...

Today we are off to Breda. So much for getting a hotel with an outside pool. The plan was to soak up the last bit of sunny summer before heading back to NZ, but the weather is so much different from what we expected for this time of the year.

At least we will get some warmer weather in Abu Dhabi over the weekend. Forecast is for highs of 42-46 for when we are there. Probably a bit too hot....
