Pont du Gard

The Pont du Gard which dates back to the beginning of the Common Era (50AD) is the tallest Roman bridge-aqueduct in the world - standing at 48 metres high.
2000 years ago it was designed to convey water to Nimes, showing the extraordinary know-how of Roman engineers.
We were only in the area for 1 night, so we decided to go have a look at the bridge after dinner.
On the way to the bridge, we drove through Nimes. Had a quick stop to look  at the Arenes de Nimes.

It took about an hour and a half's drive to get to the bridge and by the time we got there the boys just wanted to go home.
But when we saw it all tiredness was forgotten.

We walked over the bridge, then went down to the water and then along the river under the bridge.

The sun was setting and the light was amazing.

The boys wanted us to do the bridge-pose for every photo.

By the time we left there were hardly anyone there. Was really cool to have this amazing place pretty much to ourselves.

The boys then played toll roads, stopping us every few metres to pay them.

The drive home was quite slow going on dark and winding roads through rural France. The little towns by night were beautiful, though.

Finally got home at 10:30 with 2 very tired boys and 2 just as tired parents. But it was definitely worth it!!
