Zaanse Schans

After 6 weeks of travel, we finally got around to visiting someone we knew. We went to see Jannie and Liza-Marie in Zaandam, just north of Amsterdam.
This is the view from their apartment. In the distance there is a part of the bridge being lifted up to let a boat through.

We then had a leisurely stroll to the train station. What a beautiful place!

We took a short train ride to Zaanse Schans.

Here the boys are trying to getting to free map of the area. It was quite hard work!!

It was so idyllically Dutch...with the windmills and canals.

We went to a cheese shop and tasted some cheese.

The boys found a cow to milk....

Found some clogs - big ones, small ones, plain ones, fancy ones...

On our way back we saw this band making music as their boat went down the canal.

Back in Zaandam we stop for some yummy krokette from Febo. Thanks, Jan, for introducing us to these. They were so nice!!!

We stayed at Jannie and Liza-Mari's for much longer than we planned, but it was so nice to visit and catch-up on the last 13 years. The boys got to watch some Dutch cartoons, so they were happy too.

Thank you for taking the time to show us around, J and LM. We had a lovely day!
